Pica is a student magazine that celebrates the vitality of the artistic community at UQAM, encourages interdisciplinary collaborations and aims to democratize the arts. Its objective is to promote the development of local talent while establishing international contact through its annual publication and launch party. Pica is a learning ground where error is valued and barriers pushed back. By favoring an innovative and experimental approach, the magazine aims above all to be a reference tool and a source of inspiration in terms of multidisciplinary design. It stands out from other publications offered by completely new and exclusive content. Pica’s primary mission is to promote the talent and quality of work of UQAM students alongside young Montreal and international students, artists and designers, while providing the School design of a visual communication tool focused on design and its related disciplines. The choice of projects integrated into the magazine as well as those exhibited at the launch are made with a concern to fairly represent the work of women and men, students and the variety of mediums used.

Momentum

In physics, Momentum represents a force in motion, an energy in the making. It’s a dynamic that, once directed, can change an entire trajectory. But Momentum goes beyond science: it’s the starting point for something bigger. Momentum is a process that evolves over time. Momentum is both an intimate and collective experience.

Four sub-themes describe, compose and enrich the Momentum. It all begins with Genesis. It’s that moment of calm before everything is unleashed, a moment of origin where everything is stable. A new beginning where anything is possible. But where everything could lead to revolution. Stimulus is the trigger. It’s the stirring of the creative soul, the oscillation, the spark that inspires movement. Stimuli never come alone; the more of them there are, the greater the result. Epiphany is the euphoria, the Eureka moment, the tsunami that confidently ushers in the satisfaction of creation. The ensuing relief leads to the climax: Resonance. That moment when the result, having taken shape, opens up, is shared and disseminated, resonating with our loved ones and the world. These four sub-themes, along with the narrative, aim to guide you in your creative process.
