  • The title of the work refers to Over-Under. In one direction we see a mountain by the sea and which is lit by three stars in the sky. On the other hand, you can see a sunrise or sunset between two mountains that overlooks a valley. As a result, the work Ou has two exhibition directions. The artist uses monochrome pointillism to create his illustrations. **To see the detail of the print, click on the image.

    María Esthela Garcia

    b. 1984 Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Maria Esthela immigrated to Canada in 1990 and was raised between San Pedro Sula and Toronto. They are settled in Mohawk Territory of Tiohtià:ke, Kanienʼkehá꞉ka; colonially known as Montreal. Self-taught and anti-disciplinary, they produce optical metaphors that explore the spectrum of processes and systems between philosophy, science, nature and the unknown. By reinterpreting ideas through the use of specular material, light, rhythm and gravity, they have developed a visual language for processes and systems of perception and interaction found in philosophy, science, nature and the unknown. Drawing inspiration from their third culture and autistic experience, they explore the spectrums between the relative, absolute and absurd as an ontological critique of observation, knowledge, materiality, and energy. Their handmade sculptures and drawings are meticulously composed by intuitive and repetitive movements, which form a network of waves, reflecting the changing light of their surroundings, as a metaphor for existence.
