Screen printing on Hahnemühle Copperplate 100% cellulose paper
Series from the exhibition Surfaces, 2023, Le Livart.

In a back-and-forth motion similar to that of a loom’s rosette pressing weft threads together, the squeegee weaves the inks onto the paper. The accumulation of multiple colors gives rise to new tones, gradually forming a surface weave.

The series explores the analogy between weaving and printing, where the inks embody the fibers that are spun and woven simultaneously as the squeegee passes over the silk. It is also a reflection of the construction of the self. Each person is woven by his or her experiences, encounters and learning, all of which have their own colors and textures. Once joined together, the weavings created are inevitably unique.

  • Born in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal), Béatrice Dubreuil is a graphic designer, weaver and multidisciplinary artist. In 2018, she completed a bachelor’s degree in graphic design at UQÀM. When she was introduced to textile art the following year, Béatrice was already interested in several creative techniques including photography, screen printing and animation.

Her influences are multiple and drawn from his direct environment. Nature, the living, colors and music regularly feed his ideas, as do the transformation and care of matter. The wonder of the trivial shapes her creative approach and continually guides her like a child in a garden.
