“Children are the true creators of human culture.”

Maria Montessori

A year has passed since the acquisition of the sacristy adjacent to the Livart. Major renovations were undertaken under the supervision of Samuel Guimond. The work is now complete, with only a few details, notably the exterior landscaping, still to be finalized. The site is now ready to welcome children from the family program. Le Livart is delighted with this milestone in its development, which enables it to continue its mission of continually bringing to life in the urban environment spaces for innovation, experimentation, creation and exchange.

At the outset, converting the religious vocation of an ancient building steeped in history was anything but conventional. However, the transition to the arts was a natural extension of the city’s cultural memory (see Radio-Canada’s report on the opening of the center). Founder and general manager Cindy Tessier-Trudeau is the driving force behind this major project, for which the architectural firm La Shed won the Grands Prix du Design 2018 – Prix établissement culturel.

Work began on Le Petit Atelier in the spring of 2024, revitalizing a heritage gem that had been abandoned for several years. Officially inaugurated in December 2024, activities have begun, bringing art and creation back to the center of this very singular studio. Summer and spring break day camps, birthday parties, one-off workshops and exhibition visits for all ages now take place here.
