Que restera-t-il ?
The exhibition Que restera-t-il ? is presented as part of the second edition of FAVE – Forum des arts visuels émergents.
Que restera-t-il ? is an exhibition that questions the temporality of creation, the appropriation of material and the traces left by artists. The aim of the exhibition is to propose a dialogue between the concerns that permeate the collective mind and the proposal of new imaginary worlds.
Traces, imprints, marks and memories are the ideas at the heart of the project. Through the use of materials and the artists’ choice of mediums, the exhibition celebrates the artists’ return to salvaged materials, DIY techniques, low-tech and handicrafts. The ideas of residue and leftovers act as a poetic manifestation of political considerations. The exhibition asks: what are we leaving on earth? Remnants reflect traces of the past, memories and memories that remain, serving as testimony for generations to come.
Opening on January 16 with live production of 8 hours labor by artist Sam Meech
Produced in two working sessions, Sam Meech’s 8 hours labor will be completed on the opening night of the exhibition Que restera-t-il? During this event, the knitting of the banner will be filmed by a security camera and transmitted to a permanently installed monitor for the duration of the exhibition. This live production of the work will also be transmitted to the Kunsthaus Graz Museum (Graz, Austria), where the artist presented his work in 2024. Watch the live replay here.
The exhibition is the result of a first joint project between the two curators, cultural workers and friends. This exhibition is the fruit of their reflections on the work of Montreal artists.
Joseph Rozenkopf is a cultural worker and curator. He explores the practices of cultural institutions in Quebec and their impact on artists and their productions. With a degree in sociology and an active role in an artist-run center, he examines this model of art dissemination and its contemporary issues.
Dounia has a master’s degree in museology, and is a Franco-Algerian cultural worker, independent curator and author living in Montreal. She is currently artistic coordinator at Momenta.
