Summer camp – Week 5 – Cheri Samba
This week, children will explore the vibrant, figurative, and powerful universe of Chéri Samba, a Congolese painter known for his style that breaks away from Western academic painting. His unique work blends text, humour, social commentary, and Congolese popular culture, offering a free and self-taught vision of painting.
Inspired by his approach, children will let their brushes and their words, run free: they will add text to their images, play with speech bubbles, slogans, and color, and create their own expressive paintings.
This week will encourage children to reflect on the “rules” of art… while having fun bending them, reshaping them, and making them their own.
