Summer Camp – Week 6 – Maria Hupfield
This week, children will discover the bright, modern, and powerful work of Maria Hupfield, an Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) artist and member of the Wasauksing First Nation in Ontario. Working across a wide range of media (textiles, video, installation, performance) she explores the connections between culture, identity, and artistic expression.
Inspired by her practice, children will create their own artworks by playing with patterns, materials, and textures, learning how art can tell both personal and collective stories. They will explore the blend of tradition and modernity that defines her work.
This week invites children to dive into contemporary art through the perspective of a First Nations artist, discovering how artistic practices can become spaces of memory, culture, and creative exploration.
