Garland-Making Workshop for Adults

Inspired by Jeanie Riddle
Oct 31, 2026 ― Oct 31, 2026

Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Join a bilingual garland-making workshop for adults, inspired by Jeanie Riddle’s exhibition This World of Shapes.

A garland is a decorative length of miscellany often used at holidays or parties to set a them or simply, to add color to create a festive environment.

“A garland to me signifies joy and celebration, an opportunity to decorate and add form and shape and color to an environment. There is also the utilitarian aspect of a suspended string; like a clothesline for example. Some people take great pride in how garments are hung. Maybe smallest to largest like panties to XL t shirts and jeans and hoodies. Or, maybe the household linens like the sheets that were stripped from a child’s bed after a middle of the night accident. Maybe those sheets have a bright and colorful motif; flowers, hearts, rainbows, clouds, super heroes all laid out in a pattern neighboring monochromatic towels and face clothes.” Jeanie Riddle From: from the upcoming ‘This World of Shapes’

There is a fee for this activity ($20), and reservations are required. This is a bilingual activity.

This activity is part of the This World of Shapes exhibition at Livart, running from September 24 to November 1, 2026.

THIS WORLD OF SHAPES

September 24 to November 1, 2026

Artist: Jeanie Riddle (@_jeanieriddle)

The exhibition This World of Shapes, from September 24 to November 1, 2026, is a solo exhibition by Canadian artist Jeanie Riddle, who is based in Mexico. Through a body of work and site-specific interventions, the artist explores the notion of “home” by transforming the gallery space into an immersive environment where painting, sculpture, installation, and found objects intersect.

Drawing on an inventory of upcycled materials — furniture, domestic objects, and images — carefully selected, transformed, and reassembled, the exhibition reflects on the codes of domestic space, decorative practices, and material memory. Bringing together references to phenomenology and personal narratives, This World of Shapes questions and shifts traditional hierarchies between the intimate and the formal, placing these dimensions at the very heart of her practice and visual language.

The exhibition shares its title with her first book, which will be launched on October 24, 2026, towards the end of the exhibition. Spanning several decades of artistic production, this publication, supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, offers a comprehensive presentation of Riddle’s rich artistic practice. In addition to her extensive body of installation and painting work, This World of Shapes moves between memoir, creative writing, and poetry, offering an in-depth insight into her thinking, methods, and experiences.
