Artworks Packing and Transportation

Presented by artys transit, this training session provides all the practical information you need on packing and transporting works of art. David Lavoie from artys transit will present packing methods and materials to use in order to transport artworks safely, whether framed or unframed paintings, sculptures, or any other type of work. Drawing on his training in museology and 20 years of experience in the museum services field, topics such as which materials can be placed in contact with artworks, where to source these materials, and their environmental impact will be discussed. Finally, different shipping methods, their associated risks, and insurance options will also be covered.

David Lavoie graduated from the Museology Techniques program at Cégep Montmorency in 2004. He specializes in all aspects of art and museum transport, from packing to the fabrication of wooden crates and storage. With 18 years of experience working his way up—from museology technician, to driver, to team leader in the office, and eventually Director of Operations—he decided to take the leap into entrepreneurship. In 2020, he became a partner and took over the management of artys transit. For more than four years, he has been running his company with dedication, promoting a business model based on personalized and professional service. With extensive field experience, a skilled team, and equipment tailored to clients’ needs, David is fully committed to making artys transit a trusted name among Québec’s museum institutions.

Colette Mendenhall, President of Assurart, will provide concrete examples to help you determine whether or not you need insurance. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the session.
