    Andy Maple

Andy Maple lives and works in Tiohtiá:ke / Mooniyaang (Montreal), from where she situates her practice as a visual artist and cultural worker. In 2020, she completed a bachelor in visual and media arts at the Université du Québec à Montréal, where she is currently pursuing undergraduate studies in ecology. Along with Alex Pouliot, she co-founded Pièce jointe, a publishing house focused on disseminating research by contemporary artists, outside the academia. In her practice, Andy Maple looks into the divide between the natural and the human world, within Western culture. Her projects are driven by the desire to reconnect with the living world, and are activated by interdisciplinary strategies entangling artisanal and scientific methods. Recently, her research is leading her to study the link between traditional artisanal practices and the natural resources they use, and the interdependent relationship with the living world that such practices can give rise to. Her works have been presented in group exhibitions, notably at ARTCH (Montreal, 2020) and at the Galerie de l’UQAM (Montreal, 2021). She is the winner of the Mathieu-Lefèvre memorial prize (2021).
