The exhibition This World of Shapes, from September 24 to November 1, 2026, is a solo exhibition by Canadian artist Jeanie Riddle, who is based in Mexico. Through a body of work and site-specific interventions, the artist explores the notion of “home” by transforming the gallery space into an immersive environment where painting, sculpture, installation, and found objects intersect.

Drawing on an inventory of upcycled materials — furniture, domestic objects, and images — carefully selected, transformed, and reassembled, the exhibition reflects on the codes of domestic space, decorative practices, and material memory. Bringing together references to phenomenology and personal narratives, This World of Shapes questions and shifts traditional hierarchies between the intimate and the formal, placing these dimensions at the very heart of her practice and visual language.

The exhibition shares its title with her first book, which will be launched on October 24, 2026, towards the end of the exhibition. Spanning several decades of artistic production, this publication, supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, offers a comprehensive presentation of Riddle’s rich artistic practice. In addition to her extensive body of installation and painting work, This World of Shapes moves between memoir, creative writing, and poetry, offering an in-depth insight into her thinking, methods, and experiences.

This exhibition is presented as part of Picture, a painting triennial in Montreal.

Pictura Montreal is a citywide triennial dedicated to contemporary painting, featuring exhibitions in galleries, artist-run centers, cultural centers, and universities across Montreal. Founded in 2020, the triennial places Montreal painters within a global community of practice, fostering dialogue between local and international artists through a coordinated program of exhibitions, lectures, and public events. This exhibition is presented as part of the third edition of Pictura Montréal.
