ARTIST RESIDENCY / MONTRÉAL
Kyung Jeong Sin is a South Korean artist based in Busan, South Korea. Her practice incorporates hanji (traditional Korean paper), as well as printmaking, wood painting, and mural art. Her work is characterized by an exploration of bodies, memories, and collective memory through a naturalistic, at times anatomical, approach.
Under the artist’s hand, bodies are no longer fixed, and limbs begin to intertwine, merge, and reveal their inner layers. Through a protean recomposition, the artist questions the temporality of bodily forms through her choice of media and the permeable nature of her works. She approaches the body not as a fixed entity, but as a space in which different forms coexist, confront one another, penetrate one another, and transform each other.
In 2025, she presented her first solo exhibition, Soft Dash, at Openspace Bae in Busan. In 2026, she created a six-metre mural at Clothing Store Artist Studios in Sydney, where she also presented Eurydice’s Ear, her second solo exhibition and first international presentation.
During her residency at Livart, Kyung Jeong Sin will develop her project through research and observation conducted in Montréal. She plans, in particular, to visit the Maude Abbott Medical Museum and the Redpath Museum, where she will study anatomical and natural history specimens through drawing. In doing so, she will seek to draw parallels between human and animal bodies, their internal structures, surfaces, and forms. She will also continue her research into the legend of the werewolf transformation, documented in the Quebec Gazette in 1766–1767.
