Art, a quest for identity – Quebec art – Here and now

In this session, children will have the chance to discover art as a quest for freedom and identity. We will look at Quebec art from the past to the present, starting with the artists of the global refusal and ending with contemporary artists – some of whom have even exhibited at Livart.

Examples of workshop topics:

  • Public art in Quebec: the Corridart exhibition in 1976. Exploration of the techniques of cutting, collage and assembly of 3D cardboard models inspired by the work of Melvin Charney.
  • Aboriginal contemporary art in Quebec: Algonquin artist Nadia Myre. Exploration of bead weaving techniques in art using beads and glue.
  • Contemporary Quebec art in Livart: Lebicar. Exploration of drawing techniques without lifting the pencil with Indian ink on yellowed paper. Exploration of modeling techniques with metal wire.
