The following pages reveal discussions critiquing imposed political barriers, tangible and symbolic borders, categorized identities, and binary worldviews. This issue features a range of photography, writing, styling, object design, and much more, exploring concepts such as the either/or, the here/there, the back/forth, and the blurry space of the in-between. The selected works uncover varying perceptions and challenges related to the many ways in which borders and boundaries exist. When placed in context with one another, these contributions honor lineage and storytelling as methods of truth-telling and resistance against ongoing forms of violence and occupation. Together, they challenge established modes of othering and divisive tactics, contributing to a collective effort that prioritizes change, reparation, and liberation.
Our hope is that the content of this issue inspires reflection and prompts activation in readers. We extend our gratitude to all our contributors and wonderful artists who worked on this issue; we appreciate you all.
With love,
Sophie Dixon and Kioni Sasaki-Picou
