María Esthela Garcia

b. 1984 Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Maria Esthela immigrated to Canada in 1990 and was raised between San Pedro Sula and Toronto. They are settled in Mohawk Territory of Tiohtià:ke, Kanienʼkehá꞉ka; colonially known as Montreal.

Their art practice is self-taught, process-based and guided by systems thinking, research, paradox, meditation and motion.
Their handmade sculptures and drawings are meticulously composed by intuitive and repetitive movement.

Drawing inspiration from their third culture and autistic experience, they explore the spectrums between the relative, absolute and absurd as an ontological critique of observation, knowledge, materiality, and energy.

By reinterpreting ideas through the use of specular material, light, rhythm and gravity, they have developed a visual language for processes and systems of perception and interaction found in philosophy, science, nature and the unknown.
